Self-Insurance Institute™ of America National Educational Conference and Expo in San Francisco

Next week, leaders from across the self-insurance and related industries will gather in San Francisco for the 39th annual Self-Insurance Industry Institute’s (SIIA) National Education Conference and Expo. HMA President and CEO, Steve Suter, will moderate the panel, ‘Promoting Healthy Businesses, Communities and Employees via Evidence Based Policies and Practices’ on October 2nd, from 10:15 AM to 11:30 AM. Steve serves as Chairman of the Government Relations Committee for SIIA. Our Chief Client Officer, Lindsay Harris, will participate in peer-to-peer discussions from 10:15 AM to 11:30 AM on October 1st. Lindsay serves on SIIA’s Future Leaders Committee. HMA is a proud, longstanding SIIA member and Diamond SIIA Sponsor.

For those unfamiliar with SIIA, it is the only national association dedicated to representing the legislative and regulatory interests of the alternative risk transfer industry that includes self-insured employers, group fund (SIF), third party administrators, stop-loss/excess insurance carriers, and provider networks.

HMA President and CEO Steve Suter with U.S. Representative Kim Schrier

SIIA’s Government Relations Committee promotes grassroots advocacy as an important lobbying tactic as many policy-makers do not completely understand self-insuring. As chair of this committee, Steve helps inform and educate those making laws and regulations that have direct impact on our industry, our clients, and our members. He puts a human face to an issue and takes the time to explain to legislators the implications and potential unintended consequences of their decisions. An active committee, members held more than 55 meetings with legislators within the first few weeks of the 116th Congress during the SIIA annual Fly-In to D.C.

If you happen to be at the conference Oct 1st-2nd, introduce yourself to Lindsay and Steve and stop by our VIP lounge on the 4th floor, Pacific Room J at the Marriott Marquis.
